Further Fighting Futile for Former PM
Thai Government organizations are taking steps to commence further legal action against toppled Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his links in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s judgment on Friday.
The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions on Friday conveyed the judgment which found Thaksin guilty of becoming unusually richer through corruption and ordered the confiscation of 46.37 billion baht in assets from the Shinawatra family.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Tuesday ordered all state agencies to study the court’s rulings to see whether they have been harmed so that they could engage in legal action against Thaksin.
Chulasingh Vasantasing, the attorney general, divulged on Wednesday he would go ahead to request the court to convey an order to seize the 46.37 billion baht assets even though Thaksin’s attorneys had said they will appeal court’s verdict in 30 days.
Mr Chulasingh said he personally considered that Thaksin would not have any new evidence which would lead the court to modify its judgment, saying that all parties had already revealed all they had to the court throughout the trials.
