Arrest in Bombing Cases
Thai police have served an arrest warrant for a close associate of army specialist Maj Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol on charges of inciting unrest.
Lat Krabang police chief Somchai Choeiklin said yesterday Min Buri Provincial Court had handed down the warrant for Pornwat Thongsombun, also known as K-Thong, on charges of creating unrest.
Mr Pornwat starred in a video clip on You Tube saying that bombings and distubances would be happening in Bangkok from Feb 27 onwards.
The clip expanded through the internet after the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions ordered the confiscation of 46.37 billion baht in various assets from the Shinawatra family on Feb 26.
The following day, a Saturday, hand grenades were tossed at branch offices of the Bangkok Bank on Silom Road and also in Phra Pradaeng, Samut Prakan.
The Central Investigation Bureau’s Hi-Tech Crime Center yesterday called in Lt Col Kanyapat Chuprateep, an officer assigned to the Armed Forces Development Command, and Natthawut Boonyuenman for suspicion of involvement.
The events came after police on Wednesday confiscated a computer during a raid on Mr Pornwat’s home in Lat Krabang. Police said Mr Pornwat’s computer was the one used to upload the video clip.
