Missing Weapons Worry Wattanayagorn
Thailand’s government has launched an emergency investigation into enormous losses of weapons and explosives stolen from an armaments storehouse of a armed forces base camp in the southern province of Phatthalung is ongoing, according to Panitan Wattanayagorn, acting government spokesperson.
The Theft was reported to police and anxious officials on Thursday, said Mr Panitan, adding that examiners were checking whether the stolen guns and explosives were surreptitiously conveyed within the insurgency-affected southern provinces or to Bangkok where anti-government protesters from the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) plan to have a mass rally next Sunday aimed at overthrowing the government.
UDD protesters countrywide will begin moving to Bangkok March 12 and will congregate together at Sanam Luang next Sunday morning.
Safety measures at other army weaponry depots, especially in Bangkok, has been make tighter following Thursday’s incident, he also added.
